In 2004, the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Planen + Bauen" [Consortium Planning & Building] from the city of Liepe and the MB Partner "Ausbaugenossenschaft e.G." [Development Association] found their way to pedagogical architecture with the regional school in Ückeritz. The present "Ostseeschule" [Baltic Sea School], which is only 500 metres away from Usedom beach, was built before the eyes of more than 300 pupils at the place of the old school building. "The new learning culture came into being on the remains of the old building", said Peter Biedenweg, the head teacher. "Klaus Johannsen, the architect, has introduced a symbiosis of pedagogics and architecture to us. The project represents an opportunity for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania."
More than 1,500 square metres of space have to be heated. As the basis for free architectural design, including big window areas and galleries, 7,600 metres of MB Euro System Pipes 17 were installed in classrooms, but also in the assembly hall and other rooms.
